How to get your Music on indipendent spotify playlists? part 1

Spotify playlists are often created by users or promotion companies (the latter may ask for an entrance fee or a subscription to specific services).

First at all, you NEED to have well-organized network:
- Official website

- Social pages

- Bio and press shot

- Having a Spotify profile already well started (extra)

If we want to find some interesting Spotify playlists let’s play with keywords in the search box (e.g. slap house)

Scroll a little bit down and find the “Playlists” section, is a little bit down, close to “Album”, and click on “SEE ALL”

Search some good fit playlists for our music and check the curator/creator (e.g. Created by Spinnin’ Records), then go and search their Facebook page, Instagram account or their website.

Regarding playlists which are created and curated by private users like us, we should search the name on Facebook, in most of the cases they have the same profile pictures as on Spotify, so we just have to contact them directly on Facebook.

NB: Don’t forget to support this kind of job with a good communication, it makes easier to find someone who could support us.

Aaaaand… What about algorithmic playlists?

COLLABORATIVE FILTERING

Let’s take the “Discover weekly” playlists for example, it works like: users John, Nate and.. mmh.. Gigi listen same songs. There’s a new track who John and Nate like and the algorithm calculates as a percentage how much the track may also match to Gigi and then will place the track to Gigi’s Discover weekly playlist automatically.

You should be in as many user playlists as possible, this is the trick.
ONLINE POSITIONING

A good track is not enough, so first at all we have to focus on our artistic profile before than Spotify. Algorithms suggest tracks who have a good online positioning, so let’s find some good fit playlists to find similar tracks and let’s check their press releases to find some online blog/magazine to contact.

CREATE YOUR OWN PLAYLIST(S)

When we will create our personal “Discover weekly” where we will add also our track, involve our followers, listeners and friends to suggest tracks to add in our playlist. If we succeed, we will stimulate the algorithm who will analyze playlists who will suggest our track to new users.

The difference with the collaborative filtering is that the analysis is focused on playlists and not on user’s streams

EXTRA: we can use Spotify for Artists to check where our tracks are most listen, then we can use these datas to contact local radios, blogs, magazines, booking agencies etc.

I hope this little guide will help you to grow your music, for any info/help you can contact me directly to: info@bangerangnetwork.com
